George Birrell produces Architectural paintings and Landscape paintings of his native Scotland. He has a special fascination with the towns and fishing villages of Fife. You will be immediately struck by his bold use of strong colour and the stylised compositions. He describes this as an emotional response to memories and atmosphere of these special places on the Scottish east coast. An accomplished professional photographer, he understands the emphasis that lighting brings to a scene and is not afraid to experiment with the subtle tones of dawnlight and moonlight. More recently, he has travelled farther afield to paint the pastoral landscape of Provence and coastline of the Mediterranean region around Marseilles.
Vigorous handling of colour, a bold palette and strong design are all hallmarks of his painting.
